Marriage In The Church

  1. NOTICE: The Clergy must be given two to three months' notice of the marriage.
  2. DATE: The date and time of the Rehearsal and Marriage Service will be discussed at the time of the initial interview with the Clergy.
  3. PREPARATION: A recognised marriage preparation course is required for each couple. The "Humancare Programme" is recommended. Call "Humancare" - (905) 841-3173 to register. The course takes place Friday evening and all day on Saturday year round.  In addition to the marriage preparation course, each couple will have at least three preparation meetings with the Clergy.
  4. CHURCH SERVICES: Couples are expected to attend Church Services regularly and come to know the church community.
  5. LICENCE: By civil law, all couples must procure a PROVINCIAL MARRIAGE LICENCE AT CITY HALL, not more than three months before the marriage. The Clergy require that the licence be brought to the Church at least ONE MONTH prior to the date of the marriage.
  6. FEES: Fees (to be paid in cash) are to be deposited when the marriage licence is brought to the Church.
  7. FLOWERS: If the couple desires, the Church's Altar Guild is available to prepare floral arrangements. The couple may chose to make other arrangements. In either case, the flowers will remain on the altar for the next scheduled service of worship as a thank offering to God for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.
  8. MUSIC: The organist of the Church of St. Stephen plays for ALL weddings. All matters relating to music (soloists, instrumentalists, etc.) must be discussed with the organist. Please contact the organist – Arlene August.

  9. PICTURES: The use of Cameras (video and conventional) is at the discretion of the Clergy. The clergy must be informed of plans for photographs and video taping on or before the second interview. Where allowed, photographers and videographers MUST MEET WITH THE CLERGY BEFORE THE CEREMONY.
  10. PUNCTUALITY: Couples are expected to be on time for the Rehearsal and the Marriage. Where couples are late for the Rehearsal or the Marriage, the late fee is forfeited.
  11. REMARRIAGE: At the discretion of the parish clergy, the remarriage of divorced persons is available only to those who are committed in the Faith as Anglicans and who are contributors to the life and ministry of the Church of St. Stephen.
